Manage Facebook Privacy settings
Facebook changed it’s privacy settings recently, and some things are really bad. read on for more information about what has changed and how you need to set up both your childrens site, and yours to avoid any tricky situations with accidental sharing of your personal information.
The first thing to note is that these changes were made without any publicity, or at least, we can’t find any email to us as users telling us of the changes. So what has changed?
A while ago (2011), we mapped the privacy and security setings available to facebook users, and there were 25 options. Now there are 7! This is not really good enough – especially when the geolocation features are unable to be turned off.
Our recommendations for the current privacy settings are below:
Sub section |

Value |
---|---|---|
Who can see my stuff? | Who can see posts in the future | Friends |
Review all posts and things you are tagged in | Use activity log1 | |

Who can contact me? | Who can send you messages on Facebook | Friends of Friends vs Friends |
Who can look me up? | With the published email address or phone number | Friends |
Who can look up the timeline by name | Friends of Friends | |
Do you want search engines to link to your timeline | Off |
1 The activity log setting allows you to agree to be tagged in photos, or checkins made by other people.
